Want to see another theme park, Ken?
MGM Studios - the enthusiasm wanes.
MGM is thought by many to be the weakest park of the four. As two of the major attractions (Tower of Terror and Rock-n-Roller Coaster) are thrill rides, it certainly has less appeal to those who don't care for such things (but I have been on the Tower - on the day it opened, even - in a previous trip.. the special effects are very impressive. Just watch out for that last step. It's a doozie.).
We didn't do much in this park. We took in the Great Movie Ride (cute tour through animatronic movie scenes) and the Muppets in 3-D (very entertaining if "Bork Bork Bork" means something to you...). From there it was on to the backstage tours and Catastrophy Canyon, all of which are interesting if you like seeing behind the movies.
One tour showed the studio for the upcoming "Who Wants to Be A Millionaire" attraction, which is a replica of the one used now (but with more seats). Here, Disney visitors can play the game, but instead of "Phone a Friend" they will "Phone a Complete Stranger." The phone rings up to the soundstage tourgoers, and someone will be picked to help them with the question. When Regis is in the house, the player will be playing for the money. Should be interesting....
Also on this tour was a look at how special effect are done. We saw sets from Home Improvement and 101 Dalmations. In addition, there was a look at some of the puppetry used in 101 Dalmations.
There was also a special temporary exhibit on transportation in the movie, where they had two lightspeeders from Return of the Jedi.
As we were wandering to the Disney Animation exhibit (which is one of the highlights of the park), we saw a mysterious gloved hand. Following it led us down a dark corridor and around to the back of the building. Lo and Behold, the mouse himself was there for pictures. There was a very short line (only about 3 groups in front of us), so we decided to get Mouse pictures taken.
After seeing the Studios, we hopped in the car and went over to Epcot for a lunch at Morocco. You can join us at Epcot or visit one of the destinations below.
